VANS, VANS Baby

I love VANS not just because of its hip and cool designs but also for functionality. I bought another VANS slip on last Saturday though I'm not really planning to buy one. I just can't let it go it rarely happens that I will find my size I thought it's now or never.

Maybe it's a stroke of luck that I found a something original. I was looking for a VANS Classic red and black checkered slip on but couldn't find one that fits my kid shoe size. I scoured the mall but their smallest size is 6.

I like browsing VANS website for more cool designs.

EK Getaway

I'm finally home after an exhausting after-shift team building trip to Enchanted Kingdom held last Thursday with my former team.

I was recently transferred to another LOB (line of work) hence this is the last time that I will be with them. I will still see them in the office but not as often anymore after my schedule's changed. I guess it was some sort of promotion which is kinda strange because there's no salary increase, just more workload, and bragging rights because they say that agents who get transferred to that department are "performers" in their teams. Well, I'm not confident about that, yeah... whatever. I really don't care and as much as I'd like to stay with my batch mates I guess I have no choice but to move on to another team/department.

I had fun but did not sleep while on our way to EK. These guys were messing with each other the whole time inside the van like kids going on a field trip. When we arrived in EK we started taking pictures immediately and tried almost all the rides.

I like Space Shuttle among all the rides, it was breathtaking. I also enjoyed the Rio Grande we got all wet I didn't bring extra clothes because I'm not aware that it would be necessary since it's my first time there.

I was so tired after EK, I slept at my sister's pad I couldn't afford to travel back to Antipolo anymore. Twin sissy accompanied me to Fujifilm in Megamall earlier to have my EK pictures printed so I can add it to my scrapbook.

Some good things never last. I need to go back to work tomorrow night but I'll be on off again on Monday and Tuesday. Thank God.

Indie

My off starts today so I have to make the most out of it... if I could. I still have laundry to attend to and a pile of clothes to iron later nobody can take care of all these things but myself. I can't wait to get my salary tomorrow, yay.

I'm so bored at work since the internet lockdown especially during avail I just stare at my monitor and wait for my shift to end. Tomorrow is Thanksgiving Day which is a US holiday although it doesn't really matter because if you work in BPO companies you get to come to work even on holidays may it be a local or US holiday.

I'm satisfied with PLDT Vibe, our Internet works better compared to our previous ISP (Internet Service Providers) I hope it stays that way so I don't have to switch providers again.

No Internet, No Life

I was on leave for a week and got the shock of my life when I came back to work and found out that our Internet access in the office was blocked by our IT (information technology) department. We are restricted access to our most important tool/search engine, Google. We use Google a lot for research or to find additional information even if we have company provided resources because we find it more helpful, a lot.

I work in technical support btw and I understand that most employees including myself use it for non-work related stuff, to be honest, such as checking personal emails, online banking, etc. but they should've taken into account that employees use online simulators as an aid in troubleshooting Internet/email related customer concerns. We need access to simulators of different operating systems even client emails so we're sort of impaired with what the company did. It's like blind troubleshooting, to be honest. It's just not fair.

SSS ID Application

At last, I'm done with my SSS (social security system) ID application. Believe it or not, it only took me an hour unlike before, the process will take a day or two. Since they renovated their office, the service improved a lot too it was much faster than before. They also have more seats available and the air-conditioning system works so it's less stressful. I've given up twice applying for an SSS ID because I didn't have a good experience. The process before was quite tedious good thing a lot has changed since then.

I'm still playing "Rally Pro" on my phone when my name was called I wasn't even prepared I thought it'll take longer but of course I'm glad that my turn came sooner. I kinda hate the guy who took my picture from the ID section booth he asked me if I can take my nose stud off so I told him I couldn't. I had government ID pictures taken before but no one asked me to do that. I understand that maybe it's a protocol I'm just wondering how come they're not calibrated.

Mom saw my new TV and she liked it because the screen is quite big. I gave her my old TV so when they go back to Baguio she can put it in our bedroom.

Welcome to the World

I got home past 4 in the afternoon after a stroll in the mall with my sister. I'm supposed to buy a pair of sneakers but as expected the store didn't have my size I thought I'll just save the money maybe next time they'll have my size already.  I bought my friend a birthday gift from Marks and Spencer I hope she'll like it. I had a sleepover in my sister's apartment last night because I heard that our toy dog Harriet just gave birth to 2 bouncing puppies I got really excited of course since we haven't had puppies in a long time.

I'm so stuffed I feel like throwing up I don't know why I feel like this I just only ate a regular sized Tonkatsu meal and a large red tea at Tokyo Tokyo. I swear I'm not having dinner anymore unless I have a plan to kill myself. Burp.

New TweeVee

I bought a new sharp TV yesterday for a reasonable price from an appliance retail store here in Antipolo. I paid cash because the installment basis would cost more. I love my new TV, it's not the flat screen I've always wanted but it's a 21-inch screen. I think I deserve to buy something for myself since I've been working so hard. I guess I've been blessed so much this year. I didn't expect to get a bonus this early so I'm really thankful.

Happy Halloween

I've decorated our house with Christmas stuff so I can somehow feel the spirit because it's 8 more weeks to go and it's Christmas. Halloween should come first we have so many things going on in the office but I'm not that thrilled so I don't think I have to dress up 'coz I'm always feeling Halloween hehe.

I don't know who started associating Halloween with macabre and horror but whoever did it kudos to that person it makes everything more exciting and fun. On a serious note, we must not forget our dearly departed loved ones. I have nothing against the whole Halloween fun but hopefully, people will not forget the essence of All Soul's Day.

On that note, it's dressed down tonight, yay.

Rockstar Supernova + Boy Bawang

Ryan star of Rockstar Supernova

I got rid of my Live Space blog, I didn't enjoy what it has to offer I'm just not pleased with all the only reason I had it was because of "Rockstar Supernova" "Ryan Star. This blog site's hosting it as well as Ryan's personal blog. I didn't have any friends there just Ryan so I got really bored.

Boy B

Btw, I'm here to spread the news that "Boy Bawang" came out with new flavors. I've tried barbeque and adobo I liked both, way better than chili-cheese and garlic. It has this spicy bbq and salty-sweet adobo after taste that I really enjoyed a lot. It's still addicting as always.

Beyond Repair

I just got home tired. I went to Basement Salon at Shangri La Plaza to have my highlights fixed it got messed up recently. When I arrived at the Shang I am confident that they can fix my poor hair. Basement Salon is known for innovation even in the USA. They give color to boring hair and work it with celebrities. Let's say you want your hair blue-green or red or whatever, they can transform it to your liking. They're experts when it comes to funky hairstyles/color.

Unfortunately, my highlights are beyond repair so the blue color I want did not happen. I'm a bit disappointed, to be honest much more the stylist whose name is Jen. She apologized for my wasted time and for not getting the service I wanted. I really appreciate Jen's professionalism she didn't charge me for anything. I was supposedly paying Php3400 for everything, I know it's really expensive but I'm willing to spend that much would you believe it? Jen even offered to give me a better service when I come back. It's really not her fault that she can't fix the damage but lesson learned, never leave your hair to a non-expert. Before we parted I asked for her business card because that kind of customer service is something that I will be more than happy to recommend to other people. Okay, so my hair didn't come out blue but at least I walked out of the salon with a smile on my face not just because I got free service but for the excellent customer service experience. If you drop by at Basement salon at the Shang, make sure to look for Jen Leung to make sure that you're in good hands.

I remember two days ago I got a commendation from a customer who was so satisfied with the customer service I had given him over the phone. It was a simple Internet connection problem that requires basic troubleshooting. He was so pleased that he requested to talk to a supervisor so I let him speak with my Team Leader. Bottom line is that we are all customers and as customers, we all aim for satisfaction.

Hair Gone Bad

I was totally disappointed with what happened today. I went to "F" Salon for highlights and waited two and a half hours just to have my time wasted.

I've always wanted a violet highlights. Last month I went to Reyes Salon for violet highlights but they offered me the color red since that was the only color available. I said why not? I've never tried red. This time I really want violet but to my dismay, the highlights did not come out at all yet they charged me Php500 the lady receptionist/cashier insisted that 500 is the minimum charge for bleaching and coloring she even made me believe that's already discounted it's suppose to be 650. I insisted on paying 500 for not getting the service I wanted, period.

I'm not a difficult customer but the person who assisted me is obviously not knowledgable enough they should've assigned someone else who knows what he was doing. If my hair was bleached then the color should've come out given that the proper wait time was followed. My point is, if they're not confident that they can deliver then they should've referred me to another salon and not charge me to compensate for my precious time wasted.

Isn't it that "the customer is always right?" I'm never coming back to "F" Salon, they have the poorest customer ever.

Bad Karma

I got really scared about what happened to a friend of my sister just two days ago. Her friend paid her a visit that day and while waiting for a ride home just a few blocks from the apartment her bag got snatched by two unidentified men (they're wearing helmets) riding a motorcycle (riding in tandem). She said she struggled not to let her bag go so she was dragged away. She's lucky that her friend managed to hold her arm but got bruised from forehead to her knees. The worse scenario is that no one came to help or even bother to chase those bastards. People are so indifferent or just scared for their lives as well that's why no one dared to interfere? She was taken to a nearby hospital immediately for first aid. I just don't understand why there are people who make a living out of other's hard work.

Anything bad that you do even if your intention is good awaits "karma."

In Pace Requiestat

I felt a little guilty for the death of our adopted cat Soon-Yi. She was named after Woody Allen's adopted daughter she was also adopted by our cat Mao Mao to keep him company.

I was just told by my twin sister earlier that Soon-Yi was found dead inside one of our old cabinets by our dog Ziggy. My elder sister isn't aware that she's been dead hadn't she just heard Ziggy barking one day and found out that he was barking over Soon-Yi's corpse. I felt really bad when Mao Mao was transferred to our other house no one looked after her. Twin sissy and I never had the chance to feed take care of Soon-Yi.  One time I gave her some milk with antibiotic because she has scabs all over her body. Her body's not the way it used to be she turned from healthy to a vagabond looking cat. I pity the poor creature but it was too late we can't bring her life back. I'm just disappointed no matter how we tried to cure her scars she still mingles with scabbed stray cats and we can't look after her all the time, sigh.

I just hope that Soon-Yi is happy wherever she is now.

Rockstar Supernova

The Rockstars are back, this time to find a frontman/vocalist to the new band called "Supernova" with rockstar legends Tommy Lee (Motley Crue), James Newsted (Metallica) and Gilby Clarke (Guns n' Roses). I saw this one coming after the huge success of Rockstar INXS. I missed the show's premiere two weeks ago but that's okay it was never too late to catch last week's headbangin' and elimination night. I don't have any personal favorite yet but I kinda like that lady with a husky voice and sleeve tattoos. I didn't catch her name but she reminds me of Stevie Nicks when she wore a black Victorian during her recent performance. I'm glad the show is back I'm just sick and tired of watching the same old boring stuff on TV but with exception to Mad TV and Crank Yankers, I enjoyed watching these shows a lot.

I love my shift I get to watch the show live before I go to bed. I just hope that they will feature more unfamiliar classic tunes next time, not the same songs that have been sung on Rockstar INXS.

OC

I'm mad about my computer I've been extremely busy since yesterday downloading some stuff. I just can't wait to finish what I'm doing. I tried downloading desktop themes and boot screens but they won't work. I realized that I sort of just exhausted myself. Sucks right? I get so frustrated when things just don't work the way we want them to be.

I'm listening to Madonna's "Crazy for You" but I think I'm the one who might be losing my mind.

Pizza Pringles

I'm so bored I went out despite the strong winds and drizzle just to keep myself busy. I bought myself Pizza Pringles, yum! I thought this one tastes like real pizza though it was too salty for my taste. I still love the cheese flavor.

My pc is still shutting down too frequently this is not good I really need a technician to have it fixed tomorrow so I can finally install my new printer.

I need to get some sleep since I'm back to the graveyard shift.

Happy Mother's Day

Whew! Finally, this week is almost over. I never experienced working in the morning before and waking up as early as 4AM and going home at 3PM under the scorching heat of the sun.  Such a pain to wake up so early in the morning it just reminds me of my Highschool days when mom will wake me up early so I won't be late for school. Thank God I'm no longer in school but waking up early isn't over. It's not that I can't cope with my new schedule it's just that there are things I need to take care such as renewing my passport and I can't do that if I have to be at work in the morning. I don't hate the morning shift because I can live a normal life it's just that there are just some things that can't wait.

Tomorrow is Mother's Day since my mom is not here I'll just text her a nice quote for Mother's Day.

Happy Mother's Day!

ULTRAELECTROMAGNETIC JAM

I've always been an e-heads fan. When the news broke out about a tribute album for the fab four I got really excited.

I don't know, maybe I've been expecting too much I was disappointed when I saw the line up of bands and artists on the album I had second thoughts whether to buy it or not. Save for Imago, Orange and Lemons, MYMP and Isha who brought their covers to a whole new level. I just think that not all bands in there that are deserving to be part of the album. Some of the bands in the album are just popular but not apt to sing e-heads songs.

The last time I went to Odyssey in Megamall, the cd costs Php280 only but today I bought it for Php300 from Radio City but no big deal since I've always been supportive of Pinoy artists regardless if they're indie or mainstream so I didn't mind at all.

The album has 17 tracks. I fell in love with Imago's version of Spolarium instantly. These guys never fail to amuse me. I think "Overdrive" is better sung by Aia than Barbie Almalbis. I'm a fan of Barbie but that song is just not right for her.

To wrap things up Ultraelectromagnetic Jam is a good album to add to your collection especially if you like to reminisce on e-heads popular tunes. If you just can't get enough of e-heads songs this is a must-have.

Book Review: "Sweet Miss Honeywell’s Revenge" by Kathryn Reiss

This is an awesome book I definitely enjoyed reading it. This is what I think of the book I suggest you read it too so you'll know what I'm talking about.

The Madwoman in the Dollhouse
A book review on Kathryn Reiss' Sweet Miss Honeywell’s Revenge by June Pulliam

Sweet Miss Honeywell’s Revenge is typical of Kathryn Reiss’s novels in that it is a ghost story where the past and present are intermingled by the author, in part to help readers analyze the passage into adulthood of modern adolescent girls. Reiss’s ghosts themselves are midwives to these girls’ newfound adult identities. Her revenants are bent on either reproducing through their haunting the repressive conditions that warped their own adult development, or (more positively) on ensuring that what happened to them won’t be perpetrated on the next generation of girls. Both of these types of ghosts are present in Sweet Miss Honeywell’s Revenge, a convoluted tale of haunting—populated with as many revenants as living characters.

Similar to Stephen King’s novel Carrie, Sweet Miss Honeywell’s Revenge explores female anger, specifically about how it can warp the woman who harbors it in her breast and ultimately causes suffering to those around her. Unfortunately, unlike King, Reiss does not adequately examine the source of this anger in order to demonstrate that it is not so much a monstrous aberration, but a justified, or at least understandable, if extreme response to external stimuli.

Sweet Miss Honeywell is the stereotypical bitter Victorian spinster. Angular and unyielding, Miss Honeywell is the governess to the spirited Primrose Parson, a poor little rich girl with eternally globe-trotting parents who leave to servants the task of molding children into adults. These children are then expected to grow up and occupy a position in society far loftier than that of their teachers. In order to shape the adolescent Primrose into a future wife and mother, Miss Honeywell deprives her charge of all childish enjoyments, such as trips to the park and free time to play, instead of demanding she spends her days immersed in dry intellectual pursuits. And when Primrose’s attention inevitably wanders, Miss Honeywell is quick to discipline her with a ruler, a strap, or a lengthy stay in the closet. The spirited Primrose rapidly grows rebellious and plays nasty pranks on her governess. She, for example, pinches her nose shut with a clothespin as she sleeps, which only earns her more punishments.

During one of their infrequent visits home, Primrose’s parents bring her an elaborate dollhouse, with dolls representing everyone in the household, including Primrose and Miss Honeywell. When Primrose complains to her parents that her governess is overly strict, they mandate that their daughter be given some daily free time to at least play with her dollhouse. One of Primrose’s favorite games is pretending that the other dolls exact a sadistic vengeance on the Miss Honeywell figurine.

Meanwhile, Primrose witnesses the complete humiliation of her governess: Miss Honeywell is enamored of Primrose’s math tutor Mr. Pope, and the two often take afternoon tea together, ostensibly to discuss pedagogy. During one of these sessions, Miss Honeywell confesses her love and begs Mr. Pope to make her his bride. Mr. Pope, unfortunately, doesn’t share Miss Honeywell’s sentiments and spurns the governess’s advances. Primrose spies on the two, and her resulting laughter gives her away. Miss Honeywell’s wrath is swift and strong—Primrose is locked in the punishment closet overnight.

Infuriated and with much time to kill, Primrose picks the lock to the closet door and steals away to play a nasty prank on Miss Honeywell—she positions her governess’s water pitcher above the frame to her bedroom door so she’ll receive a soaking when she enters. Miss Honeywell will be unable to blame Primrose since she retreats back to the closet after setting up the prank. But the joke goes horribly wrong: the falling pitcher fractures Miss Honeywell’s skull, killing her instantly. Primrose conceals her crime by cleaning up the evidence and again retreating to the closet, leading everyone to believe that Miss Honeywell took an unfortunate and inexplicable spill. Of course, Miss Honeywell becomes a vengeful ghost and inhabits the governess doll in Primrose’s dollhouse.

Flash forward 90 years. Zibby, a tomboy who only wants to spend her birthday money on new in-line skates, is stuck at a miniatures convention with her mother. Suddenly, Zibby is inexplicably drawn to an antique dollhouse being sold by a strange old woman. The price for the house is $186.73, the exact amount of cash Zibby has in her pocket. Almost as if she is not controlling her own actions, Zibby quickly makes the transaction, although doing so also requires her to sign a document acknowledging that she is now the rightful owner of the house and that there are no exchanges or refunds. Later Zibby doesn’t know what possessed her to buy the dollhouse, a toy she would never in her wildest dreams want to have.

When she gets home, Zibby decides that she doesn’t want the dollhouse in her room, so her mother moves it across the hall. This is when Zibby discovers that she has purchased no ordinary toy. Upon waking the next morning, she finds the dollhouse returned to her own room. Zibby accuses her mother of moving the house in the night, but her mother denies doing soon. Over the course of several days, the dollhouse is moved to several different locations throughout the house, but it keeps returning to Zibby’s room, with the malicious-looking governess doll perched on its roof. Soon Zibby’s friends see the house and discover that whatever scenario they enact with the dolls comes true, but always with unforeseen, negative consequences. For example, her friends next door are currently living with their grandparents while their own mother and father do missionary work in Africa. They use the dolls to enact a scenario in which their parents return for Christmas. The next day, they get the news that indeed their parents will be home for the holidays, but only because one of them has been terribly injured. So when Zibby’s soon to be step-sister pretends that her mother will be beheaded on her wedding day, she must unravel the mystery of the dollhouse to prevent worse things from happening.

To understand the mystery of the house, it is necessary to discover the history of its owner, Primrose, and all of the people involved in her life, who are all now contained within the antique dollhouse.

Sweet Miss Honeywell’s Revenge is an extremely complex ghost story with multiple revenants, some who haunt one another, in addition to haunting the living. Also, the novel jumps through time in a way typical of Reiss’s ghost stories, shifting between the perspective of the haunted living and the dead as they were in life. Like many young adult novels, Sweet is extremely well crafted and appeals to an adolescent audience not by talking down to the readers, but rather by centering the story on characters their age (source: http://www.lsu.edu/necrofile/vol19.htm).

Top 10 Rock Albums of 2005

Posted by Thrasher (http://thrashersblog.com/) on 12/09/05 @blogcritics.org

1. "Z" - My Morning Jacket MMJ's "Z" is definitely not causing Zzzzzz's. While Jim James doesn't like to be compared to Neil Young, we still like him because he reminds us of Neil.

2. Back To Me - Kathleen Edwards "Much of the disc stomps along like Tom Petty touched by some of Neil Young's ragged glory, but Edwards is often at her best when she's at her most subdued."

3. "Okemah and The Melody of Riot" - Son Volt Jay Farrar seems to be channeling Woody Guthrie's spirit.

4. "Kicking Television" - Wilco Another example of why live music is better.

5. "Countryman "- Willie Nelson OK, so Willie doing reggae is not Bob Marley, but it's still fun to try.

6. "Live at the Fillmore" - Lucinda Williams Influenced by Neil Young's Live Rust with minimal talking and excellent live recording fidelity.

7. "Cold Roses" - Ryan Adams and The Cardinals" The results suggest what Whiskeytown might have sounded like if its brand of alt-country had absorbed the influences of Neil Young and the Grateful Dead and had replaced its fiddle with steel guitar."

8. "Forgotten Arm" - Aimee MannA concept album in the best of traditions, from music, vocals, down to art design. Sort of like Greendale on the dark side of town.

9. "Howl" - Black Rebel Motorcycle ClubA big departure from previous work. And that's a good thing. Totally uncategorizable music. Johnny Cash meets Jesus and Mary Chain. Acoustic, rockabilly, feedback, goth American rock. I don't know what it is, but I like it.

10. "Devils and Dust" - Bruce Springsteen [The song] " 'All I'm Thinking About", seems to be either a homage to or parody of Neil Young. It features a rough approximation of Young's wobbly falsetto and lyrical references to his doomy 1970s track 'Don't Let It Bring You Down', allied to the sort of carefree Chuck Berry chug that the perennially troubled Young couldn't muster if you put a gun to his head."
